Pappas started in 1972 after our late founder, Mark Pappas took over Wargos Steakhouse. He moved here in 1956 with a dream, no money and no English. Mark Pappas worked hard to achieve his goals and became a citizen in 1961. 11 years later, Pappas Restaurant was born. We never forget our roots or the sacrifices those before us made, so we can continue to thrive 54 years later. Since then, we've grown to 4 restaurant locations in Maryland: Parkville, Cockeysville, Glen Burnie, and Belair. We also have our very own Shipping Department, Catering Department, and Express Carryout in Nottingham, MD. Pappas' Crab Cake recipe remains at the top of the list of best crab cakes in Maryland. Winning Best of Baltimore Readers poll in 2025, and currently in the running for 2026 (vote now!), what sets us apart? Pappas is known for our consistent use of fresh, never frozen jumbo lump crab meat, a 54+ year old family recipe, and high meat to filler ratio. As a company, we knew we had to expand beyond the lines of Maryland. So in 2008, we started shipping our crab cakes to anyone in the USA who wanted some. We had hand-written labels, a small trailer, and a hope that this crazy idea would take off, and it did! To this day, we ship thousands of crab cakes all around the United States. For birthday gifts, anniversaries, condolences, Christmas gifts, or just a piece of home, our shipping menu has expanded but our crab cakes remain the same treasured recipe everyone has loved for decades. In the same year, our catering department bloomed. We started with crab ball platters, shrimp cocktail, deviled eggs with crab meat, and cheese trays. As we started catering larger events like weddings, office luncheons, work events, graduations, and more, our menu expanded as well. We now have a catering menu that fits all lifestyles and needs from vegetarians, pescatarians, gluten-free, brunches, and sweet treats. With April and May being home to many big events like graduations, proms, birthdays, holidays, and beyond...consider Pappas Catering for your next big gathering. We offer pick-up and local delivery.
